Mama’s Joint: Mama Summer 2008

Monday, May 12th, 2008

mama clothing

For the summer 2008 collection Mama takes you back to the Roaring 20’s when smoke-filled speakeasys and jazz clubs were the place to get a cocktail during Prohibition. A time when flappers were chopping their hair into bobs and hiking their skirts up and showing their ankles – so scandalous! Mama celebrates this exciting period and gives it a contemporary twist. The Mama’s Joint Look Book is laid out like a silent film and was shot at Milk Bar in San Francisco to give it that “secret spot” feel. You can view the Look Book here. Sit back, relax and turn the listen to all that jazz.
As usual, this is a group effort and I want to give special thanks to Amanda Lopez, Liz Baca, Jorge Magallon, Lexx Valdez, Milk Bar, and the lovely ladies Ashley, Candee, Mayra and Reina.

FSF x Pro Mama Contest Winners!

Friday, April 11th, 2008

You may remember that FemaleSneakerFiend.com was hosting a contest to give away 3 pairs of Pro Mamas. It was a difficult job but was narrowed down to 3 winners. . .

Kehinda Oshodi:

Angelina McClure:

Asha Fields:

Being the first female president is tangible because one woman has accomplished the task. In 2006, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf made history as Africa’s first female president! Until 2012, she holds office in Liberia, her homeland. Founded by freed American slaves in 1847, Liberia is the oldest of Africa’s republics and a war-ridden country.

In 1980, Liberia experienced a coup, or violent overthrow of the government, by Master Sgt. Samuel Doe, who sent Sirleaf, who was then finance minister, into exile. Sirleaf reemerged and ran for president three times - in 1997, 2003,and 2006. The third time was the charm.

Sirleaf has promised to “discharge the duties and functions of the office of the president of the Republic of Liberia to the best of her abilities”. “Stomping out corruption” is her top priority. Her approach earned her the nickname “Iron Lady”, and that name is perfect for the adidas next shoe line. It’s aggressive. And to think, when I feel powerful and fashionable as Commander in Chief , I will wear my Iron Lady’s.

Go to FSF to find out to read about the other entries and all the latest news on ladies kicks!

Oh, and a very Happy 3rd Birthday to FemaleSneakerFiend!!

Another Day, Another Photo Shoot

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

This past Sunday we had another Mama photoshoot to take pictures of our second spring delivery. The usual ladies came out to play: Busy Lady Baca, Amanda Lopez, Reina Reina, Myra, Candee and Ashley. We shot “on location” and not “in the kitchen” and Erik from MILK SF was nice enough to let us use his spot for the shoot. The line is roaring 1920’s/flapper/art deco/prohibition/jazz inspired so we want to shoot in a bar to give it that “speak easy” feel.

These shoots all start the same way - 6 am in Mama’s Kitchen. That gives us time to have breakfast, do hair, make-up and fittings. The most fun part is when Liz comes with The Goods! . . .
The shoe line-up

Fur stoles for the sophisticated ladies

Silk flowers to add here & there

Cloche hats

Glitzy Baubles

Leather gloves and feather earrings

And last but not least, lacy underthings

Ok, back to the kitchen where breakfast, hair & makeup are happening. Oh, and meet Jorge on makeup!

{We interrupt this blog post to let you know that all the photos below were taken by none other than, drumroll please . . . ONE HIT WONDER!!}

Black nails for everyone courtesy of Juicy Mama Nail Paint

Once everyone was ready, went to MILK and met Amanda

Did some final touch-ups while there

And then smiled pretty for the camera

It was a very tiring 14 hour day but we got through it. Stay tuned for the drop.

Thursday, March 27th, 2008
