I’ve been meaning to post these pictures for a minute but Mama has kept me busy. This is where you’ll find me most of the time - and usually in the yawning position . . . And this is what I look at most of the time . . . You may recall a few weeks back we announced that DJ Zita, DJ Neta and Pam the Funkstress had started a new female DJ collective called “Bay Area Sistah Sound” with a monthly party at Milk. Even though the first party was the night before our photoshoot (with a 6 am call time) a few of us were there to support. The ladies had people lined up outside. . . DJ Zita on deck . . . The place was packed . . . congrats to the ladies! I called it an early night to get ready for the Spring shoot. Next morning at 6 am the ladies started filtering in. The crew consisted of: Candee, Mayra, Reina, Ashley, Liz, Amanda and Christine. And of course Ali and I were there.
Christine doing Candee’s makeup - Candee still in PJs . . . All the makeup . . . Lots of primping . . . Me in my usual spot . . . Ashley getting makeup done . . . Candee’s man Juan came out to support. Ali kept him busy watching Colors. M.I.S.S. Liz was in full effect with her goods! Hello vintage Nike cortez-esque slip-on amazingness . . . More shoes . . . Mama shoots always involve a heavy does of gold! Amanda came by later in the morning and we met about the different shots we had to get, the location, etc. We got to the spot and set up a little “changing room” area for ourselves and got the show on the road! Juan was guarding the changing room . . . It wouldn’t be a photoshoot if Liz was not sticking her hands up someone pants/skirt . . Saw a few ladybugs that day - they bring good luck and it was evident in the pictures. I really do . . . And then back to the desk. My days begin, occur and end in this place . . . Stay tuned for spring any day now!
Once in a while I post a recipe under “Mama’s Kitchen” on M.I.S.S. Crew. It’s been a minute but a new recipe just went up along with an instructional video on how to twirl spaghetti. Get the recipe for Spaghetti Aglia e Oglio (Spaghetti w/ Garlic & Oil), see pictures and more here.
This past Sunday we shot the Spring 1 Lookbook. We took some video and photos of the behind the scenes and I’ll be posting them throughout the week. Here’s a video of Ashley being shot by Amanda Lopez and styled by Liz Baca on the beach in San Francisco.
MaZe from KixAndTheCity sat down to chat with me about the Pro Mama on his monthly show, The Stockroom, where he covers the month’s new releases. Get a sneak peak of the Pro Mama and hear about how I chose the model, colors, etc. Watch it here:
March is Women’s History Month and you know that at Mama we like to celebrate the achievements of women past, present and future. You may remember that last year I covered many different inspiring ladies throughout the month of March. I think it’s really important to understand what the women before us had to go through to really appreciate where we are today. Our mothers and grandmothers did not have all of the opportunities that we take for granted. Hell, women have had the right to vote FOR LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED YEARS. So, yes, I take WHM seriously as a time to reflect on what our foremothers have done to get us where we are now. If you missed it last year be sure to check out the 2007 March Archive.
This year, I’ve decided to honor Women’s History Month on my side-project, M.I.S.S. Crew. I wanted to take a different approach from last year. Rather than go through history, I wanted to highlight and feature women today doing amazing things in their respective fields. Please visit M.I.S.S. Crew where each day we’ll be featuring amazing talented and creative women. First up Toofly - check it out here.
M.I.S.S Crew is back again with their monthly sneaker playmate and I’m excited to announce that the Mama x Adidas Pro Mama is the M.I.S.S. March 2008! Download the M.I.S.S. March 2008 desktop here.
